My tote bag collection currently consists of 27 cotton, canvas, jute and recycled plastic shoppers in various sizes, and this doesn’t include the cotton bags that you get given at events, with no gusset, which can just about accommodate three copies of Monocle. I don’t have a tote bag addiction, I have just been on a perennial quest to find the perfect tote and having not found one, I decided to make one myself! Working with the super folk at re-wrap, who “craft enduring products with the most positive impact on people and the planet,” we are excited to launch our Poon’s Vegetable Tote. Six amendments later, we have a heavy-duty canvas bag with straps that will go over your shoulder, a gusset wide enough to fit a shoebox, a pocket for your phone, a loop for your keys, a pocket for your wallet and a sleeve to keep a bottle of wine or olive oil upright. We have had so many lovely comments about our vegetable tea towel that we decided to use the elements from this for the design. I test-drove it last weekend at my local farmer’s market. It held two crabs and a seabass, a bunch of carrots, a bag of 5-6 sweet potatoes, 2 kohlrabi, a 2kg chicken, a loaf of Borodinsky rye, a quarter loaf of “Le Rustic,” and 2 cartons of eggs. I didn’t buy a bottle of anything, so I stuck a head of celery in the bottle sleeve and there was still room and structure to slide the weekend papers down the side, without them getting crumpled. Verdict, the bag holds a lot! I think it’s pretty perfect, I hope you think so too. – The bag is made from 100% organic cotton and measures 38H x 48W x D18 cm with a small internal pocket below the handle, and a bottle holder running down one side.
